Jim Hill hat auf seiner Webseite Informationen zu einem im November 2004 als Patent angemeldeten System veröffentlicht, das den Abstand zwischen zwei Fahrzeugen optisch misst und dann die sonst von dem Gast kontrollierte Geschwindigkeit so anpasst, dass eine Kollision vermieden wird. Natürlich geht es Disney dabei weniger darum, normale PKWs aufzurüsten, sondern die Wagen in den Autopia / Indy Speedway Attraktionen, die regelmäßig in Auffahrunfälle verwickelt werden - teilweise ungewollt, teilweise aber auch ganz bewusst verursacht von Gästen, denen dies Spaß bereitet - wodurch nicht nur die Gesundheit der Gäste gefährdet wird, sondern auch die Wagen stark belastet sind.
Jim Hill führt nun aus, dass System werde nicht in einem der US-Parks Premiere feiern, sondern im Disneyland Resort Paris. Allerdings nicht etwa bei Autopia, sondern in der neuen Attraktion, die für die Toon Studios Erweiterung der Walt Disney Studios vorgesehen ist, basierend auf dem Disney Pixar Film "Cars", der 2006 in die Kinos kommt. Damit ist die Frage wieder aktuell, um welchen Attraktionstyp es sich handeln könnte. Ausgehend von der sehr beschränkten Grundfläche, die die Attraktion in einer Konzeptzeichnung einnahm, die Jay Rasulo präsentierte, hatten sich die Gerüchte zuvor auf Boxautos für Kinder oder eine entsprechend umgestaltete Ausgabe von Francis' Lady Bugs aus Disney's California Adventure (eine Art Teetassen-Fahrt) konzentriert. Eiens ist damit sicher: die Gerüchte von Jim Hill haben wieder eine lebhafte Diskussion im DLP.info-Forum ausgelöst!
Jim Hill posted on his website information about a patent filled in November 2004 for a system that optically measures the distance between two vehicels and then adjusts the speed of the vehicle, normally controlled by the guest, to avoid a collision. Certainly Disney did not file that patent to equip normal cars. Instead the wording of the patent information indicates that the Imagineers want to use the system in the cars of the attraction Autopia / Indy Speedway, which frequently collide - sometimes by accident but also by purpose to create some extra fun for some guests - which not only is a health risk for guests whose car gets rammed, but also puts strain on the cars.
Jim Hill claims to have heared that the system is not going to premiere in one of the US parks, but in the Disneyland Resort Paris. Alas not, as one might expect in Autopia, but in the new attraction based on the 2006 Disney Pixar feature "Cars", which is supposed to be part of the Toon Studios expansion of the Walt Disney Studios. This reopens the question what kind of attraction to expect, after recent rumors had it down as either a children's bumper car ride or a car-themes version of Francis' Lady Bug ride from Disney's California Adventure (basically a tea cup style ride). These two rumors did also fit rather well the limited space the attraction seemed to occupy next to the Art of Disney Animation in the concept sketch revealed by Jay Rasulo. One thing is for sure: the rumors published by Jim Hill already ignited a discussion on the DLP.info-boards!
