Die große, offene Plaza zwischen dem Disney Village, dem Bahnhof und den Fantasia Gardens ist immer wieder ein Schandfleck in den Augen vieler Fans - und nicht nur der Fans. Auch die in der Planungsphase involvierten Architekten hatten ursprünglich eine sehr viel intimere Lösung vorgeschlagen, waren dann aber gezwungen die aktuelle, offene Lösung umzusetzen. Grund: der damalige Sicherheitschef des Resorts wollte sicherstellen, dass er im Ernstfall schnell mit Polizeitruppen vorgehen könnte und Demonstranten keine Gelegenheit hätten, sich zu verstecken.
Auch heute noch sind französische Sicherheitskräfte ein üblicher Anblick in diesem Bereich, vorallem auf Grund der erhöhten Sicherheitsanforderungen an die TGV-Station. Häufig werden dabei berittene Kräfte eingesetzt - obwohl der Boden bei Regen für die Pferde sehr schlüpfrig ist. Allerdings besteht dabei ein ernsthaftes Problem: die Gitter über den Lüftungsschächten der unterirdischen Bahnsteige, die die Plaza durchziehen. Diese betreten die Polizeipferde nur äußerst ungern, was dazu führen könnte, dass ihr Einsatz im Ernstfall schwer behindert wäre. Daher werden immer wieder Trainingsstunden mit den Pferden durchgeführt, um sie an die Gitter zu gewöhnen. Die hier zusehenden Photos wurde während einer solchen mehr als 15 minütigen, mehr oder weniger erfolgreichen "Ausbildung im Dienst" gemacht.
The wide, open plaza between the Disney Village, the train stations and the Fantasia Gardens has often been a eyesore in the mind of the fans - and not only the fans. In fact the architects involved in the planning of the resort had more intimate settings on mind when they made their first presentations, but were forced to implement such a wide open space for security reasons, as the head of security wanted to make sure that in case of problems security forces would be able to move in swift and potential demonstrators would not have too many opportunities to hide.
Up to today French security forces are a common sight in the area due to the increased security that the TGV-station recieves. Frequently the police sends in officers on horse back - even so the floor proofs to be rather slippery for the horses on rainy days. But there is another more grave problem: the metall grids that make up huge sections of the floor to cover the openings used to get fresh air into the underground train stations. Even the police horses try to avoid stepping onto these. In case of emergencies this would seriously hamper the ability of the police on horseback to reign in. Therefore during normal operation days the horses are trained to walk across the grids, facing their fears / discomfort. The photos here were taken while the officers for more than 15 minutes engaged in such a training - more or less sucessful.
